Squirrels explore Mugdock Country Park

Date: 14th May 2023 Author: Stephen Allan

The Squirrel Drey had learnt what to take on a hike while in The Bield ahead of a full day of adventure in Mugdock Country Park. With the challenge of finding 30 different features or items, while following their path on a map. The Drey explored Mugdock Castle with a game of hide and seek. Continuing through the park to find the former anti-aircraft gun emplacements and then onto the former tiger enclosure. A zoo had been in the park up to the early 1950s with tigers, lions and an elephant being the start attractions. The star attraction today was the adventure course and BBQ which the Squirrels enjoyed. All this outdoor activity was going towards their first Hike’s Away badge and the top award in Scouting the Acorn Chief Scouts Award. The day was supported by the Scout Active Support Unit with the BBQ which all the Squirrels and their accompanying families thoroughly enjoyed.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
