The former Martyr’s Parish Church which sits in the grounds of Woodside Cemetery was purchased by the JNI Scout Group in 1982 as its new hall following the loss of the Scout hall in Arthur Street. The former church was converted to a hall for use by the local community while the Scout Group used the former church hall. In 2013 there was the opening of what is now known as The Bield Activity Centre, following £500,000 of development funding which created a further hall above the community hall, two climbing walls offering 22 top rope climbs and an archery facility. The Centre which is still owned by The JNI now welcomes in excess of 1,200 weekly users covering a wide variety of organisations across all age ranges throughout the local community.

The halls are available for hire, both by organisations as well as individuals. The Scout hall offers the facility to run children’s parties, which includes the commercial kitchen, and if you wish a bouncy castle and climbing.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
